QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Horsemanship 6M3505
Both courses are completed in conjunction with the learners completing the British Horse Society assessments. These BHS exams are funded by the college.

Programme Description:
KCETB’s College of FET, Kilkenny Equestrian Campus offers high-quality, full-time equine education for learners aspiring to build professional careers in the equine industry. Located in a specialised equestrian setting, the campus provides a supportive, community-focused learning environment where students develop practical skills, confidence, and industry readiness. The course provides learners with the skills required for seeking careers in a wide range of sectors in the equine industry. 

Teaching & Learning:
These courses combine hands-on practical training with academic learning, ensuring a well- rounded educational experience. Students work with a variety of horses and are guided by experienced industry instructors, helping them build competence and confidence in real-world equestrian settings. These programmes are recognised as part of one of Ireland’s longest-established equine training pathways, with a strong reputation for excellence in horsemanship education.

Entry requirements:
A two-minute video of the applicant riding; walk, trot, canter and jump a small fence unless doing the non-riding option.
A short interview onsite.
Applicants are required to have previous riding experience (if taking the riding option) and some skills and knowledge of horse care. 

Additional information:    Entry to the British Horse Society exams require approval of ‘ready for assessment’ by accredited coaches prior to applying for the assessment. 
Accommodation is sourced locally to the campus.

Fees:  There is an administration fee of €100. Students completing the courses are also eligible to apply for the student maintenance grant. 

Work Experience:  Students have the opportunity to gain practical work experience in renowned equine industry establishments. This experience meets industry requirements while allowing students to learn in professional, supportive workplaces.

Progression & Opportunities:    Upon successful completion of the QQI level 5 Certificate in Horsemanship, students may apply for level 6 Advanced Certificate in Horsemanship. Once the level 6 is completed, graduates are eligible for grants and schemes as a Young Trained Farmer (Green Cert), supporting further progression within the agricultural and equine sectors. They also may continue their education with other providers. 

Facilities: Indoor arena, outdoor arena, cross-country field, turnout paddocks, stables, lecture rooms, canteen, locker room, shower and changing area.
