Hat Standards 2025

European Standard: 

All PAS 015 (2011) * with BSI Kitemark or Inspec IC Mark
VG1 01.040 2014-12 * with BSI Kitemark or Inspec IC Mark
BSEN1384:2023 with BSI Kitemark or Inspec IC Mark 

 

The old EN1384 was disallowed in 2016 due to a dispute about testing procedures and was replaced by  VG01.040(2014-12) which is accepted across the board by all equestrian affiliations.  In 2023 the standard En1384 was brought up to date.

PAS 015 1998 and SNELL 2001 are no longer accepted in Riding/Livery/Facility Centres.  This complies with international standards.


American Standard:

ASTM F1163: 2015 & 2023 – must have SEI Mark
Snell 2016 or 2021 onwards  - must have official Snell Label and Number


Australian or New Zealand:

AS/NZS 3838 (2006 and any subsequent updates) Must have SAI Global Mark.

 

Riders are strongly recommended to check their headgear regularly (especially after a fall) and to replace if damaged.

Protective headgear is mandatory at all times when mounted in Riding Centres.   

Protective Headgear must be properly fastened at all times when mounted.

Jockey Skull Caps are required for Cross country, having no Peak or Peak Type Extensions.  A removable Hat Cover with light peak is permitted.
