HSA recognises PHEEC First Aid Response

First Aid Response

Since the 1st June 2018, the HSA only recognises the Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) First Aid Response (FAR) training standard as meeting the needs of occupational first aid in workplaces.

PHECC approve organisations as FAR Approved Training Institutions (ATIs) that can deliver FAR training.

The initial FAR training is based on a 3 day (18 hour) classroom course and valid for 2 years. Recertification training is based on a 2 day (12 hour) classroom course. Some organisations are now developing blended learning which will reduce the classroom training to 2 days for the initial training and to 1 day for the recertification training.  The instructor/learner ratio is 1:8 maximum and a 30 day grace period is allowed.

Individuals wishing to become FAR instructors should familiarise themselves with FAR instructor requirements on the PHECC website.
