IQHA's Introductory Training and Open Day at Drumcoura Lake Resort Ballinamore Co Leitrim scheduled for the 4th May 2019. This event is open to all members of the public to attend and participate. We would very much welcome AIRE members.
Background and purpose.
Throughout 2018 IQHA ran a series of Information outreach and training days with the support of AQHA . These days were open anyone with an interest in western riding or western training concepts. These were well attended , and quite a lot of interest expressed in some of the training concepts, particularly the use of the round pen and close quarter work (Groundwork) leading to Showmanship . Many participants came from leisure and pleasure background, and quite a few looking to re-engage with horses. The main purpose of these introductory training days, was to introduce some diversity when working with horses. It is not exclusively about equitation and performance at competition. But building a better relationship and improved horsemanship skills when working with your horse regardless of the preferred discipline or sport.
The Irish Quarter Horse Association is currently working on developing an Outreach Educational and Training program, that will enable participating equestrian centers to cater for Introductory Level of Western Riding and Horsemanship. Participating centers will be able to attend and even host approved AQHA/IQHA Educational Clinics and Shows. Western Inspired Horsemanship and Competition is not unique to specific breeds, although some, like the Quarter Horse do excel at performance level. But generally any horse or pony can participate.
Equine Tourism from North America and Europe (15 million equestrian involved or participate in western events or activities.)
Diversity of a broader choice of disciplines including in hand competitions.
