Newcastle West Riding Centre is a family run centre which was started in 2013. We are located 3 km from Newcastle West, Co Limerick on the R522
The Riding School is set on a traditional Irish farm with nice views of the Rooska and Ashford hills. We have a 20 acres of cross country and a further 50 acres of scenic farmland for Trekking.
We run lessons on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday in the afternoons and on Saturdays. We cater for both children and adults from the age of 8 years old. We offer group lessons and private lessons for beginners to advanced riders. We specialise in showjumping and cross country. We have 2 outdoor sand arenas, an indoor and a large cross country course.
All our students start in a one to one lesson so they can learn at their own pace and understand the technique and skills needed to take part in a group riding lesson. Our ponies and horses are well trained. A suitable pony will be carefully chosen for the student according to their riding ability.
All our Instructors have BHS qualifications and have years of experience teaching children. We actively compete showjumping, eventing and go hunting when we are not teaching. We produce young horses for ourselves and take horses on livery.
We offer Riding/ English Holidays for children and teenagers. The students are encouraged to learn English while enjoying their passion Horse Riding.
Our Equestrian Centre has something to offer both the novice and the accomplished rider.
We provide kind and friendly, qualified and experienced staff, well-schooled horses and ponies, and offer a wide range of treks through the breath-taking rugged Connemara landscape along the Wild Atlantic Way here in Renvyle, Connemara.
Approved safety helmets are provided and boots and rainwear can be supplied if needed.
We are open for Trekking every day from Easter to October.
Changing Facilities and Toilets are available on the grounds.
Our Equestrian centre is also located at the Connemara Pony National Stud, a working Stud Farm and Artificial Insemination Clinic with visitor centre and home to Silver Shadow, Ice and Fire d’Albran, Clifden Silver and Poetic Kelly, Connemara Performance Stallions and some of the most influential stallions in the Connemara Pony World.

Annaharvey Farm has been home to the Deverell Family for 5 generations & is a busy and exciting place to visit. We offer training in jumping. flat work & X country riding, and welcome visitors on both a residential & non residential basis. Accommodation is in the old restored grain barn which is very comfortable & cosy and visitors quickly make themselves at home, wandering in & out of the kitchen for tea or coffee and one of Lynda's homemade cookies!
The riding instruction is excellent with BHS qualified instructors who are good at their job & know how to get the rider to go that little bit extra to improve their skills without making them feel uncomfortable - we are also very keen to maintain the element of fun which is so important when riders are on holiday.
The facilities comprise an indoor and outdoor arena, lunging ring, gallops, xcountry course from novice to advanced level, & general hacking /trekking around the 400 acre farm.
New for this year are the Sunday morning rides 10.30-12.00 Happy Hacking 12.00 -1.30 Xcountry Ride and we are also running an Event Training Weekend for adults (see web site for details) also a "Training for Eventing" summer camp for young people along with the regular Children's Summer Camps
Livery is also available on a "Full livery" basis with clients having use of all the facilities when available and we have horses suitable for leasing for those who don't want the long term committment of buying their own.
Regular Equestrian events are held in Annaharvey from Hunter Trials, IHTS events, Pony Club Events, Connemara shows, and an indoor league in spring & autumn.
The Xcountry course is available for schooling.
For the non horsey visitor there are painting weekends, cookery classes, super walks around the farm & nearby Slieve Bloom Mts. golf, fishing & cycling.
The Tack Shop at Annaharvey will supply all your equestrian requirements from whips to hats, boots, saddles, bridles, and of course Annaharvey Farm tee shitrs, polo shitrs, sweat shirts etc. & we have a personalised embroidery service available.

We offer a number of holiday packages but the two most popular are our youth camps and adult camps.
We offer both residential and non residential riding holidays for guests throughout the year. There are a few options which may be of interest to you.
The first is adult camp. This is offered during our off season and you stay in the home of our managers Sue & Dan Foley and their family. All rooms are shared as are bathrooms and all accommodation, meals, and all riding are included in the prices. This available from September to May each year. There is around four hours riding each day. The first lesson of the day is at 10am and that is followed by an instructional cross country ride with a break for lunch at around 12.30 and back again at 2pm for another lesson, cross country ride or gentle hack. All meals are served in the family kitchen and there is a sitting room for your use in the evenings with satellite television and DVD player. There is a computer for guests use in the tea room in the equestrian centre with free internet access. Check in Saturday after 2pm and check out Saturday before 10am.
The other option is to rent our self catering unit which sleeps 6/8 (Saturday to Saturday) and riding is additional. This unit has a full kitchen, laundry, central heating, open fire, cable television and DVD player, one double room ensuite and two further bedrooms with bunk beds and a family bathroom. All rooms look out on our livery yard and the apartment is part of the original house and was built in around 1800, so it has a lovely atmosphere.
Alternatively you could stay locally in one of the many luxury hotels or guesthouses and just come and ride with us.
For the non riding visitors we have two splendid golf courses within five minutes drive as well as both fresh water (lake and river) and sea fishing as well as great walking and historical buildings to occupy their time while you enjoy your time in the saddle.
For those of you who would like a little of both worlds we can arrange for a local catering firm to cook and deliver in your meals from simple pasta dishes to a four course dinner.
Our most popular holiday is the summer youth riding and language camp and this runs through all the school holidays (and in midterm and Easter breaks as well). We have guests from 8 to 18 of all nationalities and they live again in the Foley family home with Sue, Dan and their three daughters. As this is on site at the stables, there is no need for guests to leave the estate. This makes it a very safe holiday. Guests are collected from the airport by one of our staff (usually Sue or Dan themselves) and are checked in and taken through to departures on their return flight. All meals are taken in the family kitchen and there is a den for their use in the evenings with cable television and there is free internet access and a computer for their use in the tea room at the equestrian centre. Our English teacher gives lessons in the afternoons once riding has finished.
English can be for one or two hours each day (Monday to Friday)
We can tailor programs to suit clients requirements and cater for all levels from the beginner to the rider who is out on the competition circuit. All of our instructors are experienced and our senior instructors are highly qualified and keep up to date with new practices. Sue & Dan Foley, the centres managers are out one day eventing when time allows.
Clonshire is the centre used by the University of Limerick for the practical and ridden sections of their equine science degree program and the centre has been approved by both the BHS and AIRE. With our large indoor arena and two outdoor arenas as well as our 120 acre parkland cross country course, and access to pleasant short hacks, there is plenty of variety.
Clonshire has also been added to the BHS list of training centres and will be on the list of centres running BHS examinations later in the year - hopefully for the Autumn/Winter.
Please take a look at our web site to get a better idea of what we are about.
